Saint John police now believe a 72-year-old woman missing for more than a week may have fallen from a cliff and into the water.

Shirley Woodhouse was first reported missing from the Westmorland Road area of the city’s east side on Monday.

A vehicle belonging to Woodhouse was found in the Cape Spencer area of Mispec on Thursday afternoon.

Search teams scoured the area Friday and found several personal belongings, but there was no sign of Woodhouse.

“Although there is no certainty, due to the nature and location of these items, it is reasonable to believe that Shirley may have sustained a fall from the edge of the cliff to the water,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

“The Saint John Police appreciates that this is very difficult news for her family and friends.”

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the disappearance of Woodhouse.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 506–648–3333.
