OPP and the mother of missing Elnaz Hajtamiri appeal to public for help
OPP and the mother of Elnaz Hajtamiri made an appeal to the public, including Farsi and Arabic-speaking communities, to provide information that could help them find her.
During a media conference on Tuesday, OPP Detective Inspector Martin Graham, along with Farsi and Arabic-speaking OPP members, recapped the investigation, and directed their appeals for any information to Iranian communities in the Greater Toronto Area, and Montréal.
Police are encouraging the information to be shared in those communities.
The OPP also released a video statement from Hajtamiri’s mother, who lives in Iran.
“We desperately need your help,” said Fariba Hajtamiri, the mother of the missing woman. “If you have any information, please share with the police. I beg you, as a mother, to guide us and tell us anything you know. Please help us find Elnaz.”
37-year-old Elnaz Hajtamiri, who also goes by the surname Tamiri, was abducted three months ago in Wasaga Beach.
Police say on the evening of Jan. 12, three black males, dressed in police gear, but not actual uniforms, forced their way into a home on Trailwood Place. Officers say they fled with the victim in what is believed to be a white, 2016–2022 model Lexus RX sport utility vehicle.
OPP investigators say they have linked the abduction with an assault involving the victim that occurred in Richmond Hill on Dec. 20, 2021. Investigators say they believe the same individuals are either involved in Hajtamiri’s abduction or can identify those who are responsible.
During the press conference, OPP Detective Inspector Graham said there has been no information to provide a motive or rationale for the crime, and no ransom demand has been received.
“The OPP and members of Elnaz’s family have had one goal since the abduction occurred; to find Elnaz and bring her home safely,” said Graham. “We hope that anyone with any information will do the right thing. Come forward to police and help bring resolution to Elnaz’s family.”
Elnaz Hajtamiri stands approximately 160 cm (5’3″) tall. She is of slim build and had shoulder-length black hair until it had been cut to a shorter length before she was abducted. Hajtamiri emigrated from Iran to Canada less than four years ago.
OPP are asking the public to share any information and photos of Hajtamiri using the hashtag #BringElnazHome.
Anyone with information is also asked to call the dedicated tip line at 1–833–728–3415, local police service, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1–800–222-TIPS (8477).
